Baños, one of the most polifacetic destinations in Ecuador

Baños de Agua Santa, that can be translated in English as “Water baths”, is a typical colonial city located in the middle of the Andean mountains, next to Tungurahua volcano and on the outer edge of the Amazon basin. If you are looking for a romantic destination in Ecuador, you will love this charming town, perfect to have a fun and relaxing vacation. Baños is the ideal place to relax: a calm destination with a good temperature during all  year long. The town has an extraordinary attraction for romantic tourists: thermal baths. Tungurahua Volcano proximity to Baños provides it  with  natural hot baths where visitors can relax after a long day of sightseeing, hiking and adventure activities.

There are two spas in  town, where couples can enjoy magic moments together. Visitors can  also find the therms of El Salado with many pools together at the same place. The beautiful landscapes of all the surroundings, including some extraordinary cascades, make this place specially magic for disconnecting and relaxing.


Baños is considered the adventure center of Ecuador that offers many outdoor activities, like rafting, kayaking, canyoning, rock climbing, bridge jumping, horse riding, mountain biking, etc. Visitors also organize hiking excursions into the jungle through Puyo, Tena and Misahualli.

Furthermore, travelers can visit the eco zoologic of San Martin and the different cascades in the zone: Manto de la Novia, Pailón del Diablo, Agoyán, etc.


Volcano Tungurahua is an active stratovolcano with an elevation of 5,023 metres and extraordinary views. Volcanic activity restarted in 1999 and the last eruption was on 1 February 2014.

Baños is also very close to Sangay National Park, a great place to visit during your trip, as this park has an extraordinary fauna and flora. Sangay National Park has identified more than 580 species of animals and 3000 species of plants there, such as giant otters, Ecuadorian jaguars, white-tailed deers and about 300-400 bird species.



Another place to visit in Baños, specially for catholic travelers, is visiting Nuestra Señora de Agua Santa church, home of some miracles according to believers. It is also an interesting place for architectural reasons, and its surroundings are wonderful.
