Sierra Negra Volcano Yellow Alarm

Last January 12th of 2018 the Galapagos National Park Directorate and the Geophysics Institute of Ecuador declared Yellow Alarm on the area of Volcano Sierra Negra, located on Isabela Island. This declaratory is a preventive action due to the increase of seismic activity and the uplifting of the floor on the boiler floor.

Therefore, the Galapagos National Park Directorate restricted the access to tourists and naturalists guides to the areas of Volcano Chico, Erupción 2005 and Amarradero de Caballos. Nonetheless, it allows the touristic activity to the Volcano Sierra Negra lookout #1 and #2.

Moreover, the itineraries onboard our Journey Fleet that visits the western islands or categorized as Itineraries C on both of our boats, the Galapagos Sea Star Journey and Seaman Journey will continue visiting Volcano Sierra Negra, only to the permitted areas by the GNP.

We appreciate your understanding and the collaboration informing to future travelers that are going to cruise the itineraries C onboard the Galapagos Sea Star Journey and Seaman Journey.
