Day 1 : Quito

Your adventure starts at the Equator amidst the verdant Andean foothills. Quito, situated at an elevation of 9,350 feet, ranks as the world’s second-highest capital city. Its primary attraction is the splendid Old Town, established upon an ancient Inca site. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this area boasts immaculately preserved colonial architecture, vibrant squares, impressive churches, and grand monuments. After settling into your hotel, venture out to discover this remarkable area.

If your schedule permits, we suggest arriving a few days in advance to participate in one of the optional Pre-Programs.

Day 2 : Quito

Today, partake in a guided exploration of Quito’s impressive Old Town, recognized as one of the most extensive and well-maintained colonial neighborhoods in South America. Stroll along cobblestone streets, marvel at the architecture, and indulge in delectable chocolate crafted from Ecuador’s finest cacao.

Following this, journey to the renowned ‘Middle of the World City,’ situated approximately 16 miles north of Quito. After lunch, visit the iconic monument marking the imaginary line of the Equator. Capture memorable photos as you stand with one foot in each hemisphere.

Day 3 : Galapagos

As your adventure across South America nears its end, it’s time to transition to the next phase of your journey. Following breakfast, a brief flight will transport you to Baltra Island, situated within the stunning Galápagos Archipelago. From there, you will be transferred directly to the port where the comfortable expedition ship MS Santa Cruz II awaits your arrival.

In the afternoon, our exploration of the Galápagos Islands will commence as we trace the north shore of Santa Cruz to the captivating landscapes of Cerro Dragón, also known as Dragon Hill, where we will make landfall. Along the initial part of the trail, we will pass by a brackish lagoon frequented by shorebirds and American flamingos. Further along the path, you’ll enjoy a scenic overlook of the bay and the western islands of the archipelago, along with your first opportunity to encounter land iguanas.

Day 4 : Santiago Island

Today’s itinerary will take you to the unspoiled beaches and picturesque landscapes of Santiago Island. Begin by admiring the impressive cliffs of Buccaneer Cove on the island’s northwest coast, which is teeming with marine birds and sea lions. Engage with the surroundings through various water activities and witness remarkable rock formations like ‘Elephant Rock’ and ‘The Bishop’.

Later in the day, we’ll venture to Puerto Egas, considered one of the island’s premier visitor sites. Here, you’ll have the chance to observe a colony of Galápagos fur seals and diverse bird species during an excursion. Alternatively, you can opt to swim or snorkel along the rocky shores, often accompanied by marine turtles.

Day 5 : Rabida & Bartolome Islands

Begin your day on the petite Rábida Island, situated off the southern coast of Santiago Island. Enjoy an exhilarating panga ride along the coastline to explore the island’s captivating red-colored beach. Take in the sights and sounds of a sea lion colony, and keep watch for marine iguanas, mockingbirds, yellow warblers, and various species of Darwin’s finches.

Later in the day, we’ll set sail for Bartolomé Island, known for its golden sandy beaches dominated by the striking Pinnacle Rock. Swim or snorkel in the crystal-clear waters, or opt for a glass-bottom boat ride to discover the vibrant marine life. You might even catch a glimpse of Galápagos penguins on the shore. Hike to the summit of the island for breathtaking panoramic views.

Day 6 : Genovesa Island

Today’s adventure takes place on Genovesa Island. The morning begins with a brief and steep ascent (only 90 feet) up Prince Philip’s Steps, also known as El Barranco, leading to a flat and rocky plateau. Once there, you can leisurely stroll along and observe large colonies of Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, great frigatebirds, and storm petrels. Alternatively, you can opt for a kayaking excursion on the water.

 

In the afternoon, we’ll disembark at the picturesque beach bordering Darwin Bay for a refreshing swim. Following this dip, enjoy a leisurely walk amidst hundreds of island birds. You’ll have the opportunity to swim, snorkel, kayak, or simply relax on the beach at your leisure.

Day 7 : Santa Cruz & Baltra Islands To Quito

We will begin our final morning on the northern shore of Santa Cruz Island. Following a dry landing at a passenger wharf and a bus journey to the island’s higher region, you’ll witness a key highlight of your expedition cruise: encountering giant tortoises in their natural habitat.

The windward slopes of the island are designated as a reserve, home to two species of giant tortoise. These verdant highlands boast dense forests of Galápagos daisies, orchids, and bromeliads.

Following this memorable visit, we’ll transfer directly to Baltra Airport for your flight back to Quito, where you’ll connect to your international departure. Please ensure your flight to Quito is arranged at the time of booking. Contact us to arrange your onward travel to Quito at the conclusion of your tour. Alternatively, you may opt to continue to Guayaquil for further adventures.
