5 consejos para viajar a Machu Picchu

When we think about Peru, we often evoke images of the Inca Empire and their legacy: Machu Picchu ruins. The so-called “Lost City of the Incas” is one of the favourite tourist destinations for people who travel to Latin America. In fact, it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, according to a worldwide internet poll of 2007, and UNESCO declared Machu Picchu a World Heritage Site.

“Few romances can ever surpass that of the granite citadel on top of the beetling precipices of Machu Picchu, the crown of Inca Land” Hiram Bingham

Feeling like taking a really good walk? Well, let’s start with some good tips before start planning. Logistics are an important part of this experience full of history, especially if you like having some (or All) details under control. So, what do you need to know before going there?

Take a coat, as the weather has constant changes

Most people, especially tourists from USA or Europe, associate Peru with warm weather, but if you want to be prepared, include a jacket, or even a coat (a comfy one so you won’t be overdressed!), as the weather can change dramatically during some hours. There might be some “company” along, yes mosquitoes can appear too, so wear light colors and long clothes just to be in the safe site. You can also buy repellent to avoid biting bugs. Believe me, there are so much to enjoy during the trip so don’t let your luggage stop you from that! You will be more comfortable if you just take a backpack, it’s better in order To walk and move easily for hours.

Love adrenaline? Hike Huayna Picchu

One of the best attractions of the zone is Huayna Picchu, a marvelous mountain that rises over the ruins, with spectacular sights. On top, the path is very narrow and very steep, so prepare yourself to feel the adrenaline running through your veins!

Consider bringing some “goodies” for the Day

In case you want to stay the whole day there, be sure that you have a good backpack with chips and drinks. Water will be helpful, as it is important to hydrate yourself during the visit. To be protected from the sun, we also recommend to wear a hat and sunglasses. Some visitors also take an umbrella. Walking sticks are not allowed inside the area, but you can use a stick with a rubber tip, which is more friendly with the place.

Remember that the toilets are outside and the place is bigger than it seems

We highly recommend to visit the restroom at the entrance, once you enter the enclosure you will not have the chance to go to the services. Being inside Machu Picchu, is so spectacular that you can even forget what time it is. The experience itself will take your breath away

Want to have the special Machu Picchu stamp?

You can ask for your special stamp to add to your passport. You will find a little office close to the entrance, where normally there are some people waiting, but the wait is worthy, as it is a good travel souvenir.
